Ferry Schedule
There are different ferries along the Massachusetts coast that take passengers from the mainland to Martha’s Vineyard. There is an auto transporting ferry that also takes passengers which operates out of Woods Hole. Most people visiting choose not to bring their own vehicle however it is possible if you want to pay the fees involved.
Book Your Room
The island of Martha’s Vineyard offers several different types of accommodations including hotels, cottages and homes for rent. The summer is a busy season for the island so be sure to book your accommodations well in advance. If it is a spur of the moment trip there are several hotels that take last minute reservations.
Getting Around
Due to the size of Martha’s Vineyard you can get around pretty easily on bicycles which are rented by the day or week. The rental companies are kind enough to deliver them to your hotel or rental home if you make arrangements ahead of time. If bicycles are not an option for you there are also tour vans that can take you around and car rentals to make your visit more enjoyable.
Things to Do
There are plenty of fun things to do on your visit to Martha’s Vineyard in addition to sightseeing and taking in the beautiful ocean views. Several golf courses are available for your enjoyment on the island along with boat rentals and a carrousel for the children. In addition there are many cute shops in town to walk through and see artwork or grab a bite of chocolate. Be sure to wear your comfortable walking shoes as most anything on the island requires some walking.
Pack Light
If you plan to take a passenger ferry over to the island it is important to remember to pack light. A small messenger bag or backpack is sufficient when taking an overnight trip to Martha’s Vineyard. These are much easier than a suitcase to take around on a bicycle or by foot. Packing an extra outfit and a few toiletries should not take up much room. Just remember to bring your bathing suit, sunscreen, sunglasses and camera.
